Alice and the World We Live closes with rave reviews

The reviews are in for Alice and the World We Live In and it’s clear that Montreal playwright Alexandria Haber has created “a relevant expression of our upside-down world”, as Montreal Theatre Hub’s Desiree Goldwater puts it. Alice, through the experiences of its titular character, asks questions many of us don’t want to consider: how do you deal with the unexpected loss of the person you love most? When you are mired in grief, what gives you the strength to go on? Is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

Following the death of her husband Ever in a terrorist attack, Alice must grapple with these questions, which leave her paralyzed on an Italian mountain path, too frightened to move forward and unable to go back. Yet, despite the “meaty drama” of Alice and Ever’s story, the Montreal Gazette’s Jim Burke points out that Haber’s script is equipped with “an enjoyable armoury of firecracker one-liners”.

This world premiere Canadian play is only running here at the Centaur until November 3^rd.
