Join us for readings from plays and poetry including excerpts from David Fennario’s Motherhouse. Read by the luminous actor Leni Parker and with the participation of gifted musician Nick Carpenter, this is an opportunity to remember the creative work that can transform the tragic reality of World War I into art that remembers those who fought for a better future. Skillfully curated and hosted by our Artistic Director Eda Holmes. On this important day join us on this moving and reflective journey.
Discover Leni Parker
Leni Parker is a seasoned Montreal-based Canadian actor with an illustrious 35-year career in the entertainment industry. Her remarkable theater roles encompass a wide range of characters, including Volumnia in “Coriolanus” at Usine C, the unforgettable one-woman show “The Blonde, The Brunette, and The Vengeful Redhead” at Hudson Village Theatre and Theatre Lac Brome, and Agnes in “Marion Bridge” at Hudson Village Theatre. Leni has portrayed iconic figures like Jackie Kennedy in “Jackie,” Julius Caesar in “Julius Caesar” for Repercussion Theatre, and Joyce in “Top Girls,” earning a META award for Outstanding Performance in 2014.
She was a prominent member of Pigeons International Theatre for a decade, touring extensively across Europe and Canada from 1987 to 1997. Leni’s excellence in theater has earned her numerous nominations and awards, including recognition from The Montreal Critic’s Awards, The METAs, Les Masques, and The French Critic’s Awards.
In 2022/2023, Leni starred in the world premiere of “Corps Titan” at Theatre d’Aujourd’hui and the NAC in Ottawa in June 2022. Her presence also graced the big and small screens, with appearances in “Transformers 7,” CBC Canada’s “Street Legal” as GuiliaLisandri, “Barkskins” as Mother Sabrine on Nat Geo, and “My Salinger Year” in 2020 as Pam. She’s best known for her portrayal of Da’an in “Earth: Final Conflict,” which aired on the SciFi network for four years.
Looking ahead, Leni is set to captivate audiences once again at Centaur Theatre in “Thy Woman’s Weeds.”
Discover Nick Carpenter
Nick is a prolific composer and musician, boasting an impressive list of collaborations with renowned institutions and festivals, such as the National Arts Centre, National Theatre School of Canada, and many more. His talent has earned him nominations at the METAs in 2020, showcasing his versatility as a musician and supporting actor.
Beyond his musical prowess, Nick is a skilled writer, with his plays, radio works, and librettos making waves across North America and Germany. His play “Arco” secured second place in Infinitheatre’s Write-on-Q Competition in 2021. He’s also ventured into screenwriting with the film “Maz,” featured at Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma in 2018.
Nick’s artistic journey includes accolades like winning the Canadian Peace Play Competition in 2008 with “Stained Glass” and being shortlisted for the Prism International Residency Award in 2003. He’s an alumnus of Tapestry Opera’s Lib Lab and has contributed to the Banff Playwrights Colony, Theatre Centre Residency, and the NAC/GCTC Writers’ Unit.
Nick extends his expertise as a teacher and coach at the National Theatre School of Canada and as a dramaturg for organizations like Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal, National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO), and Jeunesses Musicales Canada (JMC), where he crafts compelling stage experiences for touring concerts.
Furthermore, Nick’s creative spirit knows no bounds, as he co-founded Summersett, a project that continues to inspire and captivate audiences through music and performance.
