Centaur Theatre Presents
GOBLIN: MACBETH
A Spontaneous Theatre Creation
Starring Wug and Kragva, with music by Moog
In Goblin:Macbeth, a trio of mischievous Goblins stumble upon a copy of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Though not entirely convinced that theatre is a worthwhile pursuit, they are deeply intrigued by a writer who seems to know an unusual amount about witches, faeries, and other non-human creatures like themselves. The Goblins decide to commandeer Centaur Theatre’s stage and cajole an audience into participating in their very first attempt at putting on a play. They choose Macbeth — because it is the shortest… and has a lot of blood.
What follows is a 90-minute rollercoaster ride of surprise and chaos as the Goblins perform their irreverent take on the Bard’s classic tale of ambition, betrayal and madness.
Critically Acclaimed & Industry-Celebrated
Goblin: Macbeth has received widespread critical attention and industry praise for its originality, theatrical craft, and fearless reinvention of Shakespeare, having wowed audiences at the Stratford Festival, Bard on the Beach, and Tarragon Theatre.
Industry response has been equally enthusiastic:
“I wish the whole country could see the mastery of your skills, your commitment, your lavish ability.”
— Denise Clarke, One Yellow Rabbit
“You’re really on to something here — it’s deeply weird, but you’re on to something.”
— Diana Leblanc, Governor General’s Award–winning artist
Shakespeare Like You’ve Never Seen Before
Drawn irresistibly to “The Scottish Play,” the Goblins plunge headlong into a tale of blood, ambition, and supernatural temptation—and gleefully drag the audience with them.
What follows is Macbeth as a madcap thriller: whispered prophecies, midnight daggers, and murders committed at close range. Spurred on by the seductive promise of power and the relentless goading of his ruthless wife, Macbeth hacks his way to the throne, leaving a trail of corpses in his wake. Kings are butchered in their beds, loyal friends are betrayed, and the castle walls drip with paranoia, guilt, and blood. Severed heads are paraded, ghosts refuse to stay buried, and the line between nightmare and reality collapses entirely.
As the Goblins scramble to keep the story on track, chaos erupts—roles are stolen, scenes unravel, and the violence spins wildly out of control. The result is a visceral, darkly comic ride through Shakespeare’s most ruthless play: part horror story, part theatrical heist, and all wicked fun.
No prior Shakespeare knowledge required.
