Louise has Down Syndrome and yearns for more autonomy – like moving into an independent living facility with her boyfriend. Louise’s sister Lara found fame through a reality dating show that generated a large social media following. When Lara has a car accident that disfigures her conventionally beautiful face, she moves back home to live with Louise and their single mom, Angie. Dr. Sam Gagliardi, a prodigy in the craniofacial surgery realm who happens to have gone to high school with Lara, offers to restore her face as part of a clinical trial for a new reconstructive procedure. Beauté, a nurse at the hospital and superfan of Lara’s, begs to work on the case even though it means delaying her own gender-affirming surgery. As Lara’s face gets rebuilt, all the outward appearances these characters have been clinging to get demolished.
