Black Lives Matter

August Wilson said:

“A community is only as strong as the stories it tells about itself.”

The uprising in the United States in reaction to the most recent egregious acts of violence in an immense history of acts of violence against Black people, has made us all face a collective reckoning with a worldwide system of repression and violence that is embedded in our governments, justice systems and institutions. If we believe that theatre can serve a vital role in creating a healthy, democratic and progressive community then we must take Mr. Wilson’s words deeply to heart. We stand in solidarity with everyone who is demanding that the future must look different than the past.  At Centaur Theatre, we are committed to being an agent of change. Our actions today must echo for generations to come.
