Director’s Circle

“We discovered that citizens were in favour of providing concrete support to artists and were looking to reconnect in person with the rich world of the arts.”

– Nathalie Maillé, Executive Director, Conseil des arts de Montréal

As artists we have one of the best jobs in the world – we get to be professional dreamers. We lift words off the page and breathe life into them, conjuring costumes and lights and sounds that reflect Montreal’s unique diverse society. Our halls are magical places for Montrealers to gather as the joys and complexities of our lives unfold on stage; safe spaces to see with fresh eyes, understand with open hearts and delight in our shared humanity and connection.

DID YOU KNOW?

• A recent survey conducted by Léger in partnership with the Conseil des arts de Montréal concluded that 83% of Montreal residents believe the municipal government should spend more to support the operation of arts organizations.

• Even when full house seating capacity is possible, plus government funding, our creative output is only possible due to private donations
.

For most of the last 22 months, our doors were closed and the stages went dark due to the pandemic – and yet our community of donors were there for us through it all. Donations enabled us to stay connected with patrons and artists as we rode out the storm together in a rich conversation about who we are as a community. It was a turbulent yet valuable period that has inspired us to return to the stage with even more energy and care.

Now it’s time to get back to the business of dreaming
