At the Beginning of Time

From theatre to television to movies and almost Broadway, Steve’s career has been anything but traditional. With absolutely no training in any of the genres, Galluccio still managed to have a successful career as a playwright/screenwriter/producer/author.  He debuted back in the nineties at the Fringe Festival, and became an “overnight sensation” after ten years of writing plays for the “indie” scene, with mega-hit Mambo Italiano, which was and is still being produced all over the world. Mambo was adapted into a movie and a “pre-Broadway” musical which premiered in 2019 at the venerable (and now defunct because of Covid) Broadway Theatre in Westchester, New York. The musical’s run was interrupted and hopefully not killed by the pandemic. His other credits include the plays In Piazza San Domenico, The Saint Léonard Chronicles, Les secrets de la Petite Italie, and the feature films Surviving My Mother, Funkytown and Little Italy. Steve writes in both French and English and identifies as an allophone. 

Peter Hinton-Davis is a director, playwright and teacher and has directed over 200 productions of new work, repertoire, and opera works for the stage. He is thrilled to return to Centaur, having directed The Comedy of Errors in 2010 and Constellations in 2016. In 2021, he directed the premiere of his play The Sylvia Effect for Theatre Kingston. Recent directing credits include The Last Epistle of Tightrope Time by Walter Borden, Neptune Theatre; The Man That Got Away by Martin Julien, Buddies in Bad Times, The Hooves Belonged to the Deer by Makram Ayache at Tarragon Theatre and this year returns for his ninth season at the Shaw Festival, directing the World Premiere of The Shadow of a Doubt by Edith Wharton.

From 2005 to 2012, Peter was Artistic Director of English Theatre at Canada’s National Arts Centre. Previously, he was associate artist at The Stratford Festival, Dramaturg at Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal and Associate Artistic Director at the Canadian Stage Company. He has taught at the National Theatre School, Toronto Metropolitan University, York University, and the University of Alberta. In 2009, Peter was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Richard is a two-time CSA (Canadian Screen Award) nominee for Best Ensemble in a Comedy, for the hit CBC series The Tournament. He won the award for Best Actor at Macabre Faire ’21 Film Fest and Yes! Let’s Make a Movie Film Fest 2021 for his moving portrayal in Lifelike and a META award for Outstanding Supporting Performance in From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea. Theatre credits include From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea (Geordie Theatre), The Hockey Sweater: A Musical (NAC/Segal Centre), Crazy For You (Segal Centre), Jeanne La Pucelle (Place des Arts/Théâtre Capitole), Damn Those Wedding Bells (Segal Centre), Girl in the Goldfish Bowl (HVT), Elegies For Angels Punks and Raging Queens (Spectrum), and Bent (Salle Paul-Buissonneau), and the upcoming Prayer for the French Republic (Segal Centre). Some film and television credits include The Whole Nine Yards, The Great Gatsby, Stonewall, CBC’s Coroner and Ari Aster’s soon-to-be-released Beau is Afraid. Richard can currently be seen on Illico and TVA’s Le temps des framboises.

For over 30 years, Stephen Lawson has continuously challenged the boundaries of theatre, music, television, radio, performance art, installation, print and video. He was a co-founder of the performance troupe PRIMUS (Winnipeg, 1989–1998) and his work as a director includes radical multi-disciplinary creations with artists such as Jess Dobkin (Toronto). Since 2001, and emerging from Montreal’s wildly eclectic cabaret scene, he has worked with his partner Aaron Pollard as part of the collaborative art duo 2boys.tv. Stephen has toured a wide repertoire of transdisciplinary artworks and performances to museums, galleries, theatres, clubs, cabarets, and festivals, including the Havana Biennial, el Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico City, Triennale Québécoise at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Under the Radar Festival in New York City, the National Review of Live Art in Glasgow, Scotland, and the Hemispheric Institute biennial Encuentros in Santiago, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, and Santiago.

Michael is a thirty-five-year veteran whose career spans the mediums of film, television, theatre and radio and couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of At the Beginning of Time. For the stage, Michael has performed in F-Lying Fellini (Soulpepper Theatre), Mambo Italiano (Sudbury Theatre), The Love List (Globus Theatre), Bhopal (Cahoots Theatre), On the Money (Toronto Fringe), and Queen of Savoia (Summerworks). Michael also originated the role of Paolo in Salvatore Antonio’s In Gabriel’s Kitchen, which received a Governor General’s Award nomination. Michael’s film and television credits include Mother of All Shows for Highball TV, Little Italy, Georgetown, Kodachrome, Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, The Hot Zone: Anthrax, and Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 as the guerilla legend Lorenzo Canseco.

Nadia is so excited to be returning to the Centaur stage after appearing in Carmela’s Table in 2006. Selected theatre/musical credits include Measure for Measure, Romeo and Juliet, Billy (The Days of Howling), Belles Sœurs: The Musical, and Captain Aurora I & II. Selected film/TV/voice credits include Mirror Mirror, Target Number One, Being Human, The Disappearance, Mohawk Girls, Deus Ex, Far Cry, and Juno in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Selected direction/choreography credits include Carrie the Musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Hair, Tommy, Once Upon a Mattress. As Artistic Director of In Your Face entertainment, Nadia has produced and appeared in Souvenir, The Wild Party, and Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris.

Michael’s set and costume designs for theatre, musical theatre, opera and dance have been seen across Canada, in Europe and the US. Recent productions include the set design for Chicago at the Stratford Festival and set and costume design for the world premiere of Jasper for Yonder Window at the Signature Theatre in New York City. He has designed for  Shaw Festival, National Ballet of Canada, Ex Machina, Canadian Opera Company, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Opera Atelier, Rossini Festival – Italy, Canadian Stage Company, National Arts Centre, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Citadel Theatre, Segal Centre, Theatre Calgary, The Grand Theatre and Tarragon Theatre, among others. Andrea Lundy is an award-winning lighting designer and production manager who has worked professionally across Canada and internationally. Andrea is the recipient of 9 Dora Mavor Moore Awards and 2 Montreal English Theatre Awards for Outstanding Lighting Design. She has worked extensively with the National Arts Centre, the Shaw Festival, Tarragon Theatre, Soulpepper Theatre, Canadian Stage, Necessary Angel Theatre, and Geordie Theatre, among others. For Centaur Theatre she recently designed All I Want for Christmas, The 39 Steps, Choir Boy, Constellations and The Last Wife. Andrea is proud to be the Director of the Production Design and Technical Arts Program at the National Theatre School of Canada for the last 11 years.

Troy Slocum is a sound designer and electronic music composer. 

Recently, he scored and designed the sound for the new CBC Gem series, The Bannocking, by Damien Eagle Bear, and designed the sound and produced the beats for the audio play, Black Fly, by Amy Lee Lavoie & Omari Newton. Upcoming, he will be doing the sound design and composition for Blithe Spirit at The Shaw Festival.

Troy has created the original music and/or sound design for over 50 theatrical productions over the course of his career. Highlights include The Lamentable Tragedy of Sal Capone (NAC), The Rez Sisters (Belfry), and Buried Child (NAC/Segal Centre) also directed by Peter Hinton-Davis.

Select film/TV credits include sound design and original music for Looking at Edward Curtis (Knowledge Network) and MIA (Salmon) (TIFF, VIFF), and sound design for documentary features The Road Forward, That Higher Level, True North – The Rise of Toronto BasketballI (NFB), and Grey Roads (HOTDOCS 2021). 

Troy was nominated for a Soirée Des Masques Award and several Mecca and META Awards, and won the Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Sound Design for The Pipeline Project (ITSAZOO/SavageSociety Theatre).

Adam is an actor, writer, and director. He has appeared in numerous stage productions in Montreal, where he played characters like Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet and Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night for Repercussion Theatre. He was nominated for a Montreal English Theatre Award for both performances. On screen, he played the role of Andrew for five seasons on the TV series The Bold Type, and he also appeared in Single All the Way (dir. Michael Mayer, Netflix) and Brad’s Status (dir. Mike White, Amazon). He has directed music videos for artists like Fleece, Aiza, and Maya Malkin, and directed a short film starring Meghann Fahy of The White Lotus. He is currently developing a comedy TV series with Play Management Media Inc.  

Based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang (Montreal), Christine ML Lee is a composer, playwright and poet interested in the intersection between music, movement and storytelling. As a sound designer, she was nominated for a META award for her work on Psycho 6 (Teesri Duniya Theatre). Alumna of Nightwood Theatre’s Innovators Unit & Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal’s YCU, Christine is currently working on a musical, Just a Note, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and won a Frankie Award for Most Promising Emerging Artist for the staged reading of her musical at the St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe 2022. Christine is excited and grateful to be part of the Centaur Theatre production of At the Beginning of Time. Don’t miss her sound design on Bonnes Bonnes at Théâtre Aux Écuries in April 2023!

Melanie has been working as a Stage Manager for 23 years. Her Centaur Credits include The Last Wife, On This Day, The Book of Bob, Innocence Lost (NAC co-pro), In Absentia, Schwartz’s: The Musical, Don Quixote, Michel and Ti Jean, Doubt, The Carpenter, The Caretaker, Condoville, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Life After George, Proof, Copenhagen, Art and Dinner With friends. She has also worked at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, Geordie Productions, Imago, Teesri Duniya, Theatre Lac Brome, Hudson Village Theatre, as well as Manitoba Theatre Centre (Winnipeg), MTYP (Winnipeg), Neptune Theatre (Halifax), Citadel (Edmonton), and the National Arts Centre (Ottawa). Melanie teaches and coaches Stage Management at the National Theatre School and was the recipient of the META’s Unsung Hero of the Theatre award in 2014. She is very pleased to be working with this team of talented artists.

Elyse is a Montreal based Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager. Recent assistant stage management credits include: Playing with Fire (Centaur Theatre), April Fools, Indecent, Top Girls, Othello (Segal Centre), The Snow Queen (Theatre New Brunswick), Billy (The Days of Howling) (Talisman Theatre). She has been awarded the following: Shaw Festival Rookie of the Year Award (Cricket Team -2015), Pamela Montgomery Award (John Abbott College – 2013).
