    SYNOPSIS:

1960s Quebec juxtaposed with contemporary society seen through the immigrant lens.  Two young Lebanese women emigrate from their homeland to start new lives in Ville-St-Laurent.  Forever bound when they marry two Canada-born Lebanese brothers, they struggle to integrate the traditional female roles of their close-knit community with the emerging face of the independent woman of the feminist movement.  The mothers and their first-generation Canadian daughters personify the challenges of living between two worlds:  one shaped by their cultural origins and the other by their adopted home.  Two generations of women, their joys and complexities, as warm and sweet as Baklawa.

    CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

    Anthony Di Ciccio, 39, a lawyer-turned-politician.

Appearances and restraint are very important to him. Logical, leaves little room for emotion in his reasoning.

Vincenzo (Enzo) Di Ciccio, 35, a plumber, Anthony's brother

Wears his heart on his sleeve. Speaks with an accent typical to the East-End Italian diaspora. Proud of his roots. Living with Tourrette Syndrome

Cristina Tommasso, 37, a TV actress, Anthony's wife

A feminist in ideology, she has a hard time rationalizing her marriage to herself-- especially her most recent decision to withdraw from her career to support Anthony's political aspirations.

    Nat, 22, a beautician, Enzo's girlfriend

Nat is currently 8 months pregnant. She is the millennial anti-hero. Self-aware, yet apathetic. She is treated as an outsider within the family dynamic for several reasons: her age, not being Italian and the fact that her and Enzo have only been together for a year.
