Centaur Theatre Company
The Company

OUR MISSION
Centaur is a not for profit organisation whose mission is to create, develop, produce, and present plays and other theatrical explorations from the local, national and international repertoire – the whole, instilled with a vibrancy and relevancy that relates directly to contemporary human experience. We are guided in our efforts by a philosophy of staying “in the moment”, always remaining current with world theatre innovation and presenting a dynamic mix of theatrical form and content drawn from the classical, modern and cutting edge range.

It is also our mission to foster the spirit of, and participate in, theatrical collaboration with the International, national and Quebec theatre community at large - with an emphasis on Montreal. We adhere to a mandate of presenting the plays of Montreal playwrights, in addition to other Canadian writers.

As well, it is our undertaking to implement and employ outreach initiatives and programs that will assist in the development of Montreal theatre artists and audiences.

Our goal is to maintain a clear community, national and international identity, and finally, our responsibility is to carry out all of the above through the conscientious management of our business affairs.

OUR PROGRAMMING
From the classics to the contemporary, Centaur Theatre Company produces theatre for our times - theatre that reflects the pulsating, ever-changing world around us and theatre that celebrates the vibrant voice of today's Montreal.

In just the past few years, Centaur Theatre Company has led the way in producing and presenting 13 World Premieres of Montreal playwrights; has been recognized as a major player in Canadian theatre through its international collaboration initiatives with Ireland, the United States and Australia, and has received numerous Major Awards for outstanding direction, production, acting, artistic direction, and development of new theatrical talent.

Centaur Theatre Company continues to lead the way in theatrical outreach initiatives in the Montreal community. Founders of the Community Fundraising Play now in vogue in theatres throughout Montreal, Centaur is also the creator and presenter of the popular Saturday Morning Children's Series for the young and the "young-at-heart", Brave New Works, which provides audiences an opportunity to celebrate the diversity, imagination and highly original work of cutting-edge companies and individual “auteurs”, The Wildside Festival, Montreal's first, Second-Stage program that showcases five independent theatre companies in its annual repertory festival, including Centaur's selection of the best English-language production of the Montreal Fringe Festival, and the Theatre Of Tomorrow program, which annually makes Centaur Theatre Company the English Theatre of Choice for schools, with over 6,500 young people from high schools.

Nationally and locally, Centaur is now recognized as the leader in the presentation of Quebec French-language plays in translation and has become the home of the English-language productions of the plays of renowned Quebecois playwright, Michel Tremblay.

In its ongoing dedication to community cooperation, Centaur donates theatrical goods and services to theatre companies in Montreal, including The Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts, Infinitheatre, Geordie Productions, Imago Theatre, Theatre Lac Brome, Village Theatre West and Repercussion Theatre.

Theatre lovers from every corner of the city, from every cultural and linguistic community and from every age group are subscribing in record numbers. Welcome to the 40th Anniversary Season!!
